Mobius opening Colorado Springs office, bringing high-paying jobs | Business

Mobius, a woman-owned small business specializing in space and missile defense, has selected Colorado Springs for its newest office, bringing with it dozens of high-paying jobs.

According to a news release Thursday from the Colorado Springs Chamber and Economic Development Corp., Mobius expects to create 75 net new jobs in the Springs with an average annual wage of $137,000. That’s more than double the average for El Paso County.

“We’re proud to welcome Mobius to Colorado Springs, where their growth will be fueled by a highly skilled workforce and a collaborative business environment,” Johnna Reeder Kleymeyer, president and CEO of the Colorado Springs Chamber & EDC, said in the release. “The addition of 75 high-paying jobs highlights the strong opportunities our region offers to innovative, mission-focused companies. Mobius’ expansion also reflects the unique strengths of our community — world-class talent, a deep aerospace, defense and cybersecurity ecosystem, and a supportive network of partners that help businesses succeed.”

Mobius is headquartered in Alexandria, Va., with an additional office in Huntsville, Ala., which President Donald Trump this week announced as the new location for U.S. Space Command, currently based in Colorado Springs. Mobius President Frank Privitera told the Gazette on Friday the company is not “trading between the locations,” emphasizing the company belief the Space Command move will not eliminate important missions the military runs from Colorado Springs.

The U.S. Space Force’s Space Operations Command is headquartered at Peterson Space Force Base and employs roughly 15,000 people across the region. Colorado Springs is also home to U.S. Northern Command and the North American Aerospace Defense Command.

“We remain fully confident in the long-term strength of Colorado Springs as a strategic hub,” Privitera said. “This city has cultivated an exceptional high technology ecosystem and is home to many customers and partners with a thriving aerospace sector. The talent, infrastructure and mission-critical capabilities here are unmatched, and we believe they will continue to attract future opportunities and investment.”

Mobius, as described on its website, specializes in space and missile defense systems, modeling and simulation, sensors, radars, directed energy, weapons system integration and acquisition management. It has 160 employees.

Mobius also considered Virginia, Washington, D.C., California and Alabama as other potential locations for this expansion, the release said.

The company may be eligible for up to $173,100 in performance-based Colorado Enterprise Zone incentives, contingent upon compliance with all program requirements, the release noted. El Paso County administers the Pikes Peak Enterprise Zone, which offers state income tax credits to encourage business investment and job creation in economically distressed areas.
