Major leadership changes have been announced at Samsung. According to Chosun Daily, Vice Chairman Chung Hyun-ho, often described as Samsung Electronics’ “second-in-command,” has stepped down as head of the Business Support Task Force (TF) and retired from frontline management. The report adds that Chung has been reassigned as an advisor to the company’s chairman.
Alongside Chung’s retirement, Samsung announced that the Business Support Task Force, which had served as a temporary body, has been reorganized into a permanent division called the Business Support Office. One reason for the change, Yonhap Infomax notes, is that as Samsung Electronics expands investments in AI, semiconductors, and new growth drivers, the need for integrated, group-wide strategic management has grown.
Leadership Appointments Within the Business Support Office
Park Hak-kyu, a former member of the Task Force, has been appointed to lead the newly established Business Support Office, Chosun Daily notes. Park, formerly head of business support at the Device Solutions (DS) division, is expected to leverage his expertise in finance and organizational management to oversee strategic coordination across the group, according to Korea JoongAng Daily.
Choi Yoon-ho, who previously led the Management Diagnosis Office, has been appointed head of the Strategy Team within the new office. As Chosun Biz reports, Choi is regarded as a “finance expert,” having held key positions at the Future Strategy Office, as head of the Wireless Business Division’s Support Team, and as CFO of Samsung Electronics.
Former Task Force Vice President Joo Chang-hoon has been appointed to lead the Management Diagnosis Team, while fellow Vice President Moon Hee-dong will head the People Team, Chosun Daily adds.
Samsung’s Organizational Overhaul Aims for Stability, Not Control Tower Revival
Regarding the structural changes, Chosun Biz, citing a Samsung Electronics official, notes that as the company’s performance enters a recovery phase, Vice Chairman Chung is stepping back from frontline management to focus on developing future leadership. Meanwhile, although Samsung Electronics’ Business Support TF has been renamed the Business Support Office and made a permanent organization, the move is not intended to rebuild a control tower, the report adds.
