Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has successfully procured the ISO 22301:2019 Business Continuity Management System (BCMS) certification from the British Standards Institution (BSI). The current certification is effective from September 9, 2025 until September 8, 2028, and signifies TAT’s dedication to operational excellence, resilience, and compliance with international best practices for business continuity management.
Renewal of this valuable certification reflects TAT’s readiness to ensure uninterrupted and effective operations so that Thailand’s tourism industry will remain strong despite global challenges and crisis. It also emphasizes TAT’s continued pursuit to be a High Performance Organisation (HPO) with innovation, good governance, and sustainable development in mind.
Strengthening Operational Resilience in Thailand’s Tourism Industry
At the official certificate presentation ceremony, Ms. Natthriya Thaweevong, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, received the certificate on behalf of TAT from Ms. Piyaorn Ratsameerungruangtawee, Sales and Marketing Director of BSI Group (Thailand). During the ceremony, Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT Governor, emphasized the importance of crisis management and business continuity for sustaining confidence in the global tourism industry, which is still recovering from recent disruptions.
“In an era of constant change and uncertainty, particularly within the recovering global tourism industry, crisis management and business continuity are vital for sustaining confidence among travelers and stakeholders,” said Ms. Kiatphaibool. “This certification reflects TAT’s ongoing preparedness to manage risks effectively, ensuring seamless service delivery and reinforcing Thailand’s position as a trusted tourism leader.”
Maintaining High Standards in Crisis Management and Risk Mitigation
TAT has consistently maintained its BCMS in alignment with ISO 22301 standards since 2018, ensuring that its core functions continue to operate effectively during any crises or disruptions. The ISO 22301:2019 certification acknowledges TAT’s ability to manage risks, disruptions, and emergencies across its core operational areas.
The renewed certification follows a successful re-certification audit and covers four key operational processes critical to TAT’s mission: tourism marketing promotion, public relations and image building, information services and customer satisfaction management, and tourism product and service development. These core processes are essential for ensuring that TAT can deliver uninterrupted services to both domestic and international travelers and maintain its leadership role in Thailand’s tourism industry.
Enhancing TAT’s Role as a Leader in Global Tourism
TAT’s focus on business continuity aligns with its goal of becoming a High Performance Organisation. As the world recovers from the disruptions caused by global events, TAT is committed to adapting and evolving with the changing landscape of global tourism. The renewed certification emphasizes that resilience and preparedness are key to Thailand’s long-term success as a tourism destination.
The certification also plays a crucial role in enhancing TAT’s credibility with international partners and tourism stakeholders, reinforcing Thailand’s position as a reliable and trusted destination for tourists around the world.
Strengthening Thailand’s Tourism Strategy: The TAT Corporate Plan 2023-2027
Looking ahead, TAT will continue to strengthen its business continuity systems and expand its efforts as part of its strategic direction. As outlined in the TAT Corporate Plan 2023–2027 (Revised 2025–2027), the organization is focusing on achieving HPO status, which involves fostering a culture of innovation, resilience, and good governance.
The renewed certification is also a reflection of TAT’s ongoing efforts to align with international best practices, ensuring the sustainability of the country’s tourism industry. By emphasizing resilience and continuous improvement, TAT is positioning Thailand’s tourism sector to recover from global disruptions while preparing for future challenges.
TAT’s Commitment to Enhancing the Visitor Experience
Through the implementation of business continuity measures, TAT is ensuring that its tourism operations remain flexible and adaptable to changing conditions. The focus on customer satisfaction and seamless service delivery remains at the heart of TAT’s mission to improve the visitor experience. Whether through tourism marketing or direct interactions with travelers, the continued emphasis on service excellence will help attract global visitors and ensure that Thailand remains a top destination for international tourism.
A Resilient Future for Thailand’s Tourism Industry
The re-certification with ISO 22301:2019 is a major milestone in terms of building the country’s resilience and achieving business continuity in the event of future disruptions. Through an emphasis on sustainable tourism operations, risk management, and the development of tourism infrastructure, TAT is setting Thailand up to continue to be a world leader in the tourism sector. This accreditation is a reflection of TAT’s dedication to continued high standards and the development of Thailand’s tourism industry for years to come.
